150th Birth Anniversary of Sister Nivedita
In connection with the commemoration of the 150th birth Anniversary of Sister Nivedita, a special Guest Lecture was organized by the reverend Prof. Dr. S. Srinivasan, Director of SGC cum Vice- President of Ratha Yathra Committee, Puducherry, in Conference Hall, SGC on 1st Feb. 2018. Dr. N. Hemamalathi, convenor and the members of the Women’s Development Cell made all the arrangements for the successful conduct of the programme. Smt. Andal Priyadharshini, Director of DDK, Chennai, was the Chief-Guest of the programme. Dr. N. Hemamalathi, Convenor of Women’s Development, extended her cordial welcome to all the delegates and the gathering. Our Principal Prof. Dr. J. Sukumar, felicitated the occasion. Our Director Prof. Dr. S. Srinivasan, Vice-President of Ratha Yatra Committee, Puducherry, enlightened the gathering by his inspiring Presidential speech on Sister Nivedita, her lofty contributions to Indian Society exclusively for the upliftment of Indian women and her association with Ramakrishna Mission. He also jotted down the names of a few chivalrous women from the Vedas and the Puranas and how they were treated with reverence and adoration. He stated proudly how women had been celebrated and treated on par with Goddesses in Indian society since the Vedic period. The Chief- Guest Smt. Andal Priyadharshini, delivered a special talk on Penne Ne Magathanaval. Shri K. Lakshminarayanan, the State Coordinator of Ratha Yatra Committee, Puducherry and other distinguished members graced the occasion by their valuable presence. Nearly 500 girls students were benefitted by the programme and the pledge was taken to follow the doctrines of Sister Niveditha, and propagate kindness among humanity. The occasion dropped its curtain with the vote of thanks delivered by Mrs. R. Saradha, Asst. Prof. of Computer Applications.
