Why Study BCA (Hons.) Computer Applications?

The BCA. (Hons.) computer application programme is designed to provide students with a comprehensive understanding of computing principles, programming, and emerging technologies while fostering innovation, critical thinking, and lifelong learning. The curriculum aligns with the objectives of the National Education Policy (NEP) 2020 by emphasizing multidisciplinary learning, skill development, experiential education, and industry relevance.

The programme offers a balanced blend of theoretical knowledge and practical experience through laboratory work, project-based learning, internships, seminars, and value-added courses. Students develop proficiency in programming, data structures, algorithms, database management, multimedia & animation, software engineering, IoT, cloud computing, artificial intelligence, machine learning, data analytics, and web technologies.

The department promotes research aptitude, ethical computing practices, entrepreneurship, and professional competence through active learning and industry interaction. Graduates are well prepared for careers in software development, data science, cybersecurity, cloud computing, systems administration, and related fields, as well as for higher education and research.

 Admission Eligibility

 The candidates for admission to this programme shall be required to have passed 10+2 / 10+3 system of examinations or equivalent with Mathematics / Business Mathematics / Applied Mathematics/ Computer Science / Computer Applications /Informatics  Practices  /  any one of  Computer  Related  Subjects  (Artificial Intelligence, Data Science, Multimedia, Typography and Computer Applications, Web Applications/WT, Database Management applications/DBMS) or Equivalent as one of the subjects of study with minimum 40% and minimum 35% for OBC, SC and ST candidates. Students shall be admitted to this programme based on admissions criteria fixed by the Institution/ Affiliated University / Government of Puducherry from time to time.

Admissions by Lateral Entry

 In this programme, where admission was carried out adopting approved procedures in preceding years, subject to availability, lateral entry admission shall be permitted, subject to:

Candidates seeking entry at the second, third, and fourth years should meet the necessary eligibility criteria with respect to the certificate/diploma/degree they possess, with the necessary minimum credits banked in the Academic Bank of Credits (ABC). Such students who get admitted in later years, other than the first year, will be guided by the following clauses:

 ●  That the Institution shall notify of the admission process and the number of vacancies open for lateral entry.

●    That the Lateral entrants shall be admitted only after such transparent screening process and such procedure as the Institution may prescribe from time to time. The institution may prescribe different methods of screening for different programmes depending on the circumstances prevailing in each case.


●    Lateral entry shall be permissible only at the beginning of years 2, 3, and 4 of the Under Graduate / Honors programme; provided that the students seeking lateral entry shall have obtained the minimum pass marks/grades fixed by the Institution in their previous academic years.

Lateral Entry to Direct Second Year

               For Lateral entry, Candidates who have passed a Diploma in Computer Technology, Computer Application, Information Technology or any Diploma with relevant subjects/courses on regular/ vocational stream (10+3 years program) awarded by the Directorate of Technical Education of Tamil Nadu or other states shall be admitted to the second year of B.Sc(CS), BCA and B.Sc.(IT) The degree programme is based on the availability of vacancies.

 Age:

There is no age limit prescribed under NEP 2020 for admission to the BCA(Hons.) computer application programme. However, admissions shall be governed by the eligibility criteria and admission regulations of the affiliating University and the Government from time to time.

Medium:

 The medium of instruction shall be English.

Fees:

 Rs. 24,000/- per semester + one-time payment of Rs. 2,800/- will be collected.
